Induction training
In peacekeeping and special political missions, also known as field missions, Conduct and Discipline Teams (CDTs) provide all personnel arriving in field missions with induction training on conduct and discipline.
The training covers a range of topics including the mandate and function of the CDT, standards of conduct and core values, definitions, types and consequences of misconduct with a particular focus on sexual exploitation and abuse, individual and management responsibilities, the obligation to report misconduct, how to report wrongdoing, disciplinary and administrative procedures, and the rights and responsibilities of the peacekeeping personnel. This induction training may be delivered directly by CDTs or through ‘training of trainers’ courses.
Pre-deployment training
Troop- and police-contributing countries (TCCs/PCCs) are responsible for providing mandatory pre-deployment training, including standards of conduct for military and police personnel.
The United Nations provides TCCs/PCCs with core pre-deployment training material, which is usually delivered by peacekeeping training institutions operating on a national or regional/sub-regional level.
TCCs/PCCs are required to certify that military contingent personnel, formed police units and other individually recruited uniformed personnel being deployed to United Nations field missions have received pre-deployment training which contains mandatory content on conduct and discipline.
In addition, the United Nations can support TCCs/PCCs, if needed, by deploying mobile training teams.
Specialized trainings

The Conduct and Discipline Service has developed two specialized training programmes:
Preventing sexual exploitation and abuse is an online mandatory training programme on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse available for all uniformed and civilian personnel. The online course is available in three versions: for staff, for managers and for commanders. The training is intended to strengthen knowledge of what constitutes sexual exploitation and abuse, the consequences and impact of such misconduct on victims, host population, United Nations personnel or mandate delivery.
The programme is available in all United Nations official languages and is publicly accessible on the United Nations Inspira website.
Maintaining Conduct and Discipline for United Nations Commanders of Military and Police Contingents - In order to strengthen the capacity of commanders of military and police contingents, the United Nations introduced a reinforcement training package (RTP) for use in pre-deployment training by United Nations Member States. The mandatory training package called Maintaining Conduct and Discipline for United Nations Commanders of Military and Police Contingents aims to build capacity of command staff to: lead by example and raise awareness of United Nations standards of conduct under their command; identify and mitigate risks related to misconduct, especially sexual and exploitation and abuse; encourage reporting by United Nations personnel and communities served; respond to allegations and collaborate with the relevant stakeholders during the investigation and disciplinary process.
The training package is a blend of online learning (also available offline) followed by interactive, face-to-face in-person training and is available in all United Nations languages.
