External Independent Review Panel appointed to review the United Nations response to allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse by international peacekeeping forces in the Central African Republic

Text

Following reported allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse of children by foreign military forces not under the command of the United Nations in the Central African Republic and by the response of the United Nations system to those allegations, the Secretary-General appointed an External Independent Review Panel on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse by International Peacekeeping Forces in the Central African Republic in June 2015. The Panel’s mandate included reviewing and assessing the facts and circumstances of the allegations and the subsequent response of the United Nations, and the procedures in place for reporting, investigating, communicating on and taking action on allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse, as well as making recommendations on what steps should be taken to improve the ability of the United Nations to respond effectively and appropriately to future allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse.
