Vetting of military contingents and formed police units for prior misconduct

Text

As of May 2016, the United Nations conducts vetting of all members of military contingents and formed police units for prior misconduct while in the service of United Nations field missions. In addition, troop- and police-contributing countries are required to certify upon deployment or rotation of personnel that no individual being deployed or rotated has committed, or been alleged to have committed, violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, or been repatriated on disciplinary grounds and barred from participation in future UN operations.

The United Nations had already been similarly vetting individually recruited military, police, corrections officers, United Nations Volunteers, individually hired contractors and consultants, as well as international and national staff, for prior misconduct while in the service of United Nations field missions.
